Regulating Tourist Bus Access in Milan: LTZ BUS

Milan is a bustling city in Northern Italy that attracts a large number of tourists and business travelers every year. The city has an extensive bus network that provides transportation for both locals and visitors. However, the bus traffic in Milan is regulated by specific regulations that impose restrictions on access and circulation within certain zones.

This includes the Limited Traffic Zones (ZTLs) and the Area C zone, which imposes restrictions on certain types of vehicles. In this article, we will explore the regulations and restrictions on bus traffic in Milan and how to plan your trip accordingly.

Milan's bus traffic is regulated by specific regulations that impose restrictions on access and circulation within ZTLs (Limited Traffic Zones), which vary depending on the access zones, times and days of the week, and the polluting category of the vehicle.

Restricted Areas

Urban pedestrian areas are completely closed to vehicular traffic, except for emergency vehicles and law enforcement vehicles, with exemptions for vehicles that transport people with reduced mobility.

For a better organization of your trip, whether for pleasure or business, Noleggio Bus Milano offers its experience to its customers to properly plan visits and movements in the city, advising the nearest stops for passenger boarding and disembarking and reaching the points of interest.

Area C Regulation

Introduction

In the historic center of the city, a zone called Area C has been established, which imposes restrictions on certain types of vehicles. This zone coincides with the ZTL Cerchia dei Bastioni and is delimited by 43 gateways with cameras.

Restrictions

Within the city, some preferential lanes are provided whose transit is allowed only to public transport, taxis, NCC cars and minivans, as well as emergency vehicles and law enforcement vehicles.

Active Days and Hours

Area C is active on weekdays from Monday to Friday from 7:30 am to 7:30 pm and is not active on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays.

Access for Tour Buses

Tourist buses and minibusses with more than 9 seats and of no less than Euro 5 category can access Area C upon payment of a daily fee, which varies depending on the size of the vehicle:

  • € 40.00 for minibusses up to 8m
  • € 65.00 for buses between 8.01m and 10.50m
  • € 100.00 for buses over 10.50m
  • € 5.00 for buses and minibusses carrying students on a school trip enrolled in lower secondary school
