Regulating Tourist Bus Access in Amalfi: LTZ BUS

Amalfi is a picturesque town located in the Campania region of Italy, situated on the Gulf of Salerno. It is renowned for its stunning natural beauty, rich history, and cultural heritage, and is a popular tourist destination in the region.

The town boasts of several landmarks, such as the Cathedral of St. Andrew, which is one of the most significant religious structures in Italy, and the Museum of the Compass and Maritime Duchy of Amalfi, which provides visitors with a fascinating insight into the maritime history of the region.

Additionally, the town features several quaint streets and alleys, lined with local shops and restaurants, offering visitors a taste of the unique local cuisine and culture. The BusPass service provides a convenient way for tourists to explore this enchanting town, ensuring hassle-free and reliable parking solutions for their buses.

The BusPass service is a telematic reservation system for available bus parking spots in the territory of Amalfi (Piazza Flavio Gioia II). The regulation for the BusPass service was approved in the Municipal Council session on March 27th, 2003. The article 5 was modified in its entirety on April 21st, 2009, through the Council Act no. 17. Below is the coordinated text of the "BusPass" Regulation.

Subject of the service

The municipality of Amalfi has established the BusPass service through this regulation, which allows users interested in tourist bus parking to make reservations through the Internet with advance payment, in specifically designated areas within the territory of Amalfi. Users who do not use the telematic BusPass service will be subject to additional charges on the predetermined hourly rates.

Access to the service

Access to the service is allowed for registered users on the specially designated website. Registration is free and does not require booking obligations. Upon registration, a user code will be assigned to be used in subsequent correspondence.

Payment methods

To make a reservation, the user must make advance payment:

  1. With a credit card, or
  2. By bank transfer to the treasurer of the Municipality, sending a copy of the payment receipt via fax. The competent office will update the online credit that can be used for reservations.

Users must indicate the following in bank transfers: "BusPass, user code n.___." In case of the second payment method, the BusPass Office will guarantee the availability of the credit to be used for reservations within 15 days of the payment.

Booking methods

A minimum of two consecutive hours must be reserved. Reservations will be accepted until the previous day. It is not possible to book dates more than 90 days in advance.

Cancellation of reservations and parking area access

It is possible to cancel the reservation without any penalty up to three days before, in case of a mistake in the indication of the date or time of the reservation. Access to the parking area is allowed with a tolerance of 30 minutes, in advance or late. If a delay (or advance) of more than 30 minutes is recorded, the service will allow parking without additional charges for the first half hour. Afterward, the corresponding fee for the next half-hour will be charged, excluding holidays.

Refunds

If the user does not use the entire credited amount, the unused balance can be refunded through a request sent to the Financial Service of the Municipality. The refund request can be submitted after 90 days from the last use.

Free parking for a third hour

A third hour of free parking is granted during the 12:00 - 18:00 timeframe for tourist buses that demonstrate:

  • having booked the entrance, for a number of people equal to at least 50% of the seats of the bus, to the "Museum of the Compass and Maritime Duchy of Amalfi - Arsenale della Repubblica" (or any other integrated ticket including a visit to the aforementioned museum);
  • having booked lunch at an Amalfi licensed activity, for a number of people equal to at least 50% of the seats of the bus.

Controlling reservations and payments

It is possible to consult and print all operations carried out using the "My account" button at the bottom of each BusPass page after logging in.

Is booking mandatory?

Yes. As per the Municipal Council's resolution no. 51 of April 15th, 2019, booking is mandatory for both passenger loading and unloading and bus parking.

Is passenger loading and unloading regulated by BusPass?

Additionally, the BusPass service offers several benefits, including a free hour of parking for those who book a meal at a restaurant or visit the Museum of the Compass and Maritime Duchy of Amalfi. Furthermore, users can access their account information and view their transaction history through the "My Account" button on the website.

It is important to note that pre-booking is mandatory for both passenger loading and unloading, as well as bus parking. Furthermore, passenger loading and unloading is currently regulated by the G.C. 65/2013 resolution and is subject to booking requirements for the stalls arranged in Piazza Flavio Gioia I. The BusPass system includes the appropriate CS Passeggeri application, which allows for the advance payment of stops for passenger loading and unloading.

If the service is also activated for Piazza Flavio Gioia II, this information will be promptly communicated on the website.

Users can make reservations for the following day until 24 hours in advance, while passenger loading and unloading can be booked on the same day of arrival.
